Something to ponder …
I was looking at a Christian news site and came across an old article about Mr. Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” quoting, out of context, from the book of 1 Corinthians. Mr. Robertson was asked what in his mind was sinful and he responded with:
- “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”
I suspect thou have no way of confirming, that Mr. Robertson answered the question based upon many years of indoctrination sitting in pews of compromised churches. I suspect, it was there that he learned to point fingers at particular sins, it was there that I suspect he learned to point fingers at the people who commit those sins. When we select a particular sin, we are dividing or rather separating ourselves from that sin.
Mr. Robertson looked outward instead of inward, he focused on the speck of dust in someone else’s eyes instead of telling us about the log in his own.
Mr. Robertson gave the problem a face, a target, and in so doing left out the primary enemy. Hear me clearly please; Mr. Robertson did nothing wrong except stand up for his faith in the same manner that he was taught by organized religion. Most men and women of God would have responded the same way, myself included, if answering from the training and indoctrination of a Judeo-Christian school of thought. Judeo-Christian teaching is a combination of the strictly Jewish Torah, Jewish traditions, and lastly, the teachings of Jesus. By his answer the enemy became men and women who fit a profile of what a homosexual looks like instead of the rampant sexual immorality that exists in the boardrooms, work spaces, streets, parks, theaters, stores, homes, and churches around the world!
Before I start I want to caution you that we must not turn against good men and women of God because they are not the enemy, they have been programmed by the enemy. Our hope must rest in the Lord and he tells us to rest in him. We do this by handling things the way Jesus taught us by his words and personal example.
Nothing that has happened or will happen is beyond God and if you truly have faith in Him than place your trust there as well and remember:
- And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose, because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:28-29 (NETFull)
The enemy has infiltrated the upper echelon of organized religious institutions to mislead and deceive those who were trying to find their way to Jesus. Religious institutions are billion-dollar enterprises filled with men and women who must maintain a semblance of interest in promoting the eradication of sin while at the same time promoting sin without anyone realizing it and raking in money all at the same time. We must never forget that the individual preacher we are listening to is a victim of Satan, an unknowing puppet. Perhaps he or she started out with genuine hearts and high ideals, but the deceiver is very good at what he does so try not to be angry, and don’t try to interfere because we are not called upon to do that. Pray for them, that is the weapon you were given, and it is a powerful one when wielded by true warriors of God who know who they are. The New Testament itself, every single word of it is the sword you are called upon to wield. Following the example and words of Jesus will be harder than anything you have ever attempted before, that is exercising true faith! Imagine loving and being kind and respectful to the person who holds a gun to your head? We aren’t to waste time pleading for our lives, we waste time telling them their only real way to peace in their souls is found in Jesus, the Christ!
The enemy is Satan, sin is a symptom of his presence. The Apostle Paul said:
- “I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people– not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. 1 Corinthians 5:9-11 (NIV 1984)
Jesus did not walk around telling everyone how worthless they were and belittle them for not measuring up; he told them how good God was and that very soon he would clear the way for their redemption.
- But they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. Revelation 12:11 (NETFull)
Because we have stepped outside of our area of responsibility we are helping Satan destroy the Christian Church that Jesus died to establish. Remember that one of the reasons society is so critical of the Christian church is because we keep trying to hold them to religious standards that apply only to those who accept them. Christianity is about choice, and if sinners want to be sinners it is none of our business. If men and women call themselves Christians it is the responsibility of their church to correct and teach their congregants what sin is and remove them from the congregation if they choose to not practice their faith but walk in the ways of this world.
Fill your heart and minds with the truth of Jesus and His love. Love heals; hate separates and destroys.
So, how should we answer questions like the one posed to Mr. Robertson? Perhaps we should not point out any one sin because after all … any sin leads to eternal separation from God. Perhaps we should remember that Jesus taught us that the sin of adultery was multi-faceted and went far beyond our limited human understanding and it is best to leave definitions in the hands of our creator. Perhaps we should say something like, “Well, I can tell you that I struggled with …” and then fill in the blank with sins we once walked continually in. In other words speak from your own experience, not that of others.
I can speak to many of the sub-categories of sexual immorality in my own testimony and so I can say that sexual immorality should be on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list as well as the list of organized religion, but it is not because it too is big money … and man’s BIGGEST weakness. Ask any pastor worth his salt … if you step on the “sexual immorality” toes of the members of your own congregations … tithes and/or attendance drops. Period.
Thank you for your time and may God Bless you richly here if possible, but remember that your real reward awaits you in eternity. This is the war zone and it rarely offers anything good in the battle except for the friendship of the person next to you in the foxhole.
Before closing I would like to point out from the only two eyewitnesses who wrote a book of the Gospel what was going on with the religious leaders of Jesus’ day and remind you that men and women who appear to possess a direct hotline to where we can find true freedom from the guilt of our sinful lives are catered to and can become very well-to-do and get lost in that. This is the reaction of the religious leaders to the teachings of the Son of God:
- “If we allow him to go on in this way, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away our sanctuary and our nation.” John 11:48 (NETFull)
- “So the crowd who had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead were continuing to testify about it. Because they had heard that Jesus had performed this miraculous sign, the crowd went out to meet him. Thus the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you can do nothing. Look, the world has run off after him!” John 12:17-19 (NETFull)
- “But the Pharisees went out and plotted against him, as to how they could assassinate him.” Matthew 12:14 (NETFull)
- “When it was early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people plotted against Jesus to execute him.” Matthew 27:1 (NETFull)
Good night, and God Bless.
